Short answer: Series 12 starts at AED 1,599, Ultra 4 at AED 2,800. Both are open for preorder now and reach stores on Friday 18 September. The real change this year is a new heart sensing system, not the screen or the styling.
The prices
- Apple Watch Series 12: from AED 1,599
- Apple Watch Ultra 4: from AED 2,800
- Preorder: open now. In stores: Friday 18 September
That is a gap of 1,201 dirhams between them, which is most of the price of a Series 12 again. Worth being honest about what the extra buys, because for most people it is not much.
What is new on both
The headline is the Health Sensing System paired with a new S11 chip, which Apple calls its most powerful wearable silicon. In practice it means heart rate and heart rate variability get sampled far more often than before, and that higher frequency data feeds a new readiness score that tells you whether your body is actually recovered enough to train hard today.
Readiness scores are not new in the wider fitness world, and whether you find them useful depends entirely on whether you act on them. If you already train by feel and sleep badly regardless, a number on your wrist will not fix that. If you train seriously and plan your weeks, it is genuinely handy.
The S11 also enables features arriving later in the year to help deaf and hard of hearing users stay alert to important sounds around them. Everything else carries over: workout and sleep tracking, sleep apnea notifications, heart health alerts, the ECG app, Fall Detection and Emergency SOS.
Apple Watch Series 12
Battery is the practical upgrade. Still up to 24 hours of everyday use, but now up to 10 hours during an outdoor workout, which is 25 percent more than before. If you run long or cycle for hours, that is the difference between finishing a session with the watch alive or not.
Finishes run to dark bronze, black, light gold and space grey in aluminium, plus radiant gold and natural titanium. The autumn Sport Band colours are olive, burgundy, wildflower blue and pale succulent. There is also Shazam built in, so the watch identifies music playing around you and shows the track on your wrist without you opening anything.
Apple Watch Ultra 4
Same sensing system and same S11, wrapped in titanium and aimed at people who spend real time outdoors. Battery stretches to 45 hours of outdoor workout tracking, which is a different category of endurance to the Series 12 and the actual reason this model exists. Apple also claims the most accurate on device GPS in a sports watch, and satellite communication is still here for when you are beyond any network.
It comes in natural and black titanium.
Where to preorder
Amazon.ae now carries the Series 12 in 42mm GPS at AED 1,599, the same starting price Apple charges, and it is sitting in preorder there. Ultra 4 is Apple only for now. We will not point a buy button at a page that does not exist, which is why the Amazon route appears for the Series 12 and not for the Ultra.
The outgoing generation is the more interesting buy right now. Amazon.ae has the Series 11 in 46mm aluminium at about AED 1,372, which is a couple hundred dirhams under the brand new Series 12 in 42mm, so check which case size you actually want before buying the older one to save money. The genuinely cheap entry is the SE 3 at roughly AED 1,043, though note Apple itself starts the SE 3 at AED 999, so compare the exact case size and connectivity before you decide where to buy.

If a renewed unit appeals on price, check the seller and the warranty carefully before ordering, because coverage on refurbished stock varies a lot here.
Which one should you buy
For almost everyone, Series 12 at AED 1,599. It has the same new health sensors, the same chip, and the same readiness features as the expensive one. You are not being sold a lesser experience.
Ultra 4 makes sense in one situation: you are outdoors for very long stretches and 10 hours of workout battery is not enough. Hiking, ultra distance running, diving, long days offshore. If your longest session is a 90 minute gym visit, you are paying 1,600 dirhams for a titanium case and a battery you will never empty.
If you own last year's model, skip it. The sensing system is a genuine improvement but it is not worth a full price replacement one year in. From anything three or more years old, it is a real jump.
