Short answer: AED 549, or AED 629 for the version with the wireless charging case. Preorders are open now and they reach stores on Friday 18 September. The headline is that noise cancelling has finally arrived on the cheaper AirPods.
The prices
- AirPods 5: AED 549
- AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case: AED 629
- Preorder: open now. In stores: Friday 18 September
The 80 dirham gap between the two buys a wireless charging case, longer total battery life, and volume control on the stem. If you already own a charging pad, that is an easy yes. If you charge by cable and never touch the volume from the earbuds themselves, save the money.
What actually changed
Active Noise Cancellation in an open ear design is the whole story. These are not the sealed tips that block sound physically, so making cancellation work at all is the hard part. Apple says they remove up to 50 percent more external noise than the previous generation with cancellation switched on.
Sound gets a new multiport acoustic design and an updated Adaptive EQ, which tunes output to the shape of your ear rather than assuming every ear is the same. Transparency mode is meant to sound more natural. There is also head gesture control, so you can nod or shake to answer Siri without speaking, which is either genuinely useful on a call or the first setting you turn off.
Dust, sweat and water resistance are all improved. That matters more here than it sounds. In this climate the thing that kills earbuds is usually sweat, not drops.
Where to preorder
Amazon.ae now lists the AirPods 5 at AED 549, the same price Apple charges, and it sits in preorder there with a release date of 18 September. Apple is the other route and stocks every band and case combination. We will not point a buy button at a page that does not exist.
Here is the part worth knowing before you buy anything else. The previous generation with noise cancelling is currently about AED 552 on Amazon.ae, which is still slightly more than the AED 549 Apple is charging for the new model. The outgoing pair is the worse buy at a near identical price, so ignore it. The sealed Pro model sits at roughly AED 824 if you want proper isolation instead.

Should you buy them
At AED 549 with real noise cancellation, this is the most sensible pair for most people. The expensive Pro model still wins on outright isolation because it seals your ear canal, and on a long flight that seal does most of the work. You pay roughly three times as much for it.
If you own the previous generation without cancellation, this is a genuine upgrade. If you already own the version with cancellation, it is not. Wait for the next one.
Open ear designs suit some people and not others. If you have never managed to keep sealed tips comfortable for more than an hour, this is the pair worth trying.
