SSD Prices Are Next, and the Squeeze Runs Into 2027
Short answer: storage is still affordable today, and that is the whole point. Flash memory supply is expected to stay tight until the second half of 2027. RAM already went through this and the damage is visible on every listing. If a drive is on your build list, buy it in this window rather than the next one.
What is actually happening
The memory shortage that pushed DDR5 kits up all year is not confined to RAM. The flash side of the business is running tight as well, and supply forecasts now point to relief arriving no earlier than the back half of 2027. A new production line was reported this week in Beijing, aimed at breaking into flash manufacturing. Read the timeline before you celebrate: it is a research and development line, there is no announced date for it running, and nobody has said whether it goes beyond trial production at all. Even in the best case, a line that starts research today does not put cheap drives on shelves next quarter.
Meanwhile the same pressure that lifted memory pricing is now pointed at storage, with the added twist that AI storage buyers are competing for the same output you are. Those buyers are not price sensitive. You are.
What UAE prices look like right now
We checked these on Amazon.ae on September 19, 2026. This is the calm before, not the after.
- fanxiang 1TB Gen4 NVMe around 580 AED, the budget slot, rated up to 7,000 MB/s
- Lexar NM710 2TB Gen4 around 949 AED, the cheapest 2TB worth trusting
- Crucial P310 2TB Gen4 around 977 AED, best value per gigabyte on this list
- Samsung 990 EVO Plus 2TB around 1,178 AED, the one to buy if you want it to outlive the build
Note what that 2TB column is telling you. The jump from 1TB to 2TB costs far less than twice the money, which means the per gigabyte price rewards going bigger. That is normally true, but it matters more than usual when the next price move is upward.
Why this hits UAE builders specifically
Storage tracks global pricing closely here. There is no local cushion that absorbs a supply squeeze, which is exactly what we watched happen with memory: the increases arrived in full, on schedule, with no discount for distance. Expect the same mechanism, and expect it to show up first on the high capacity drives that the data centre buyers also want.
Games are the other half of the problem. Install sizes have gone from inconvenient to absurd, with upcoming titles now being quoted near the 200 GB mark on their own. A 1TB drive that felt generous two years ago now holds a handful of modern installs and a Windows partition. The capacity you need is going up while the price of capacity is about to do the same.
What to do
- Buy the drive now if it is in your build. Not because prices spiked today, but because every signal points one direction and none of them point down before 2027.
- Go 2TB rather than 1TB. The per gigabyte maths already favours it, and buying capacity once beats buying it twice in a rising market.
- Do not hoard. Four drives in a drawer is not an investment, it is a slow depreciation with extra steps. Buy what the build needs.
- Watch White Friday. Storage still discounts hard during the big UAE sale events, and that may be the last genuinely good window before the tightness shows up in shelf prices.
Our take
We have been careful not to shout about this, because storage has not actually spiked yet. That is precisely why it is worth writing about now instead of in six months, when the advice becomes useless and the only honest thing left to say is that you should have bought earlier. RAM gave everyone the same warning and most people waited. The supply picture does not improve until late 2027 on current forecasts, and a research line announced this week does not change that timeline. Buy the drive, skip the drawer full of spares, and get on with the build.
