A 200 GB Game Is Coming and Your 1TB Drive Is Not Ready

Short answer: one upcoming 2027 release is expected to want roughly 200 GB on its own. If you are still running a 1TB drive, that single game plus Windows plus the launcher clutter is most of your capacity gone. 2TB is now the sensible floor for a gaming build, and it costs less per gigabyte than 1TB does.

Where the number comes from

At a major industry show in Tokyo this month the game director of a big role playing sequel was asked directly whether the download would be bigger than the two discs its predecessor shipped on. His answer was yes, and he put the figure at around 200 GB. He also confirmed the physical edition will use a single disc with a mandatory download on top, because a full on disc release would have needed two again.

It is still an estimate and the game does not arrive until April 8, 2027, so the final figure can move. What is not an estimate is the direction of travel. The previous entry in the same series landed at 155 GB on PC. The one before shipped on two discs. Nobody in this industry has ever revised an install size downward.

Do the maths on your own drive

Take a 1TB drive. In practice you see about 930 GB of usable space. Windows and its recovery partition take roughly 60 GB once updates settle in. That leaves you about 870 GB. Now put a 200 GB game on it, then a 155 GB one, then a 120 GB shooter that patches every fortnight, and you are already scraping the bottom with three games installed.

This is the part people underestimate: a nearly full drive is also a slower drive. Leave a sensible margin free rather than filling it to the rim and wondering why your load times went strange.

What 2TB costs in the UAE right now

Checked on Amazon.ae on September 19, 2026:

Look at the gap between the 1TB and the 2TB options. You are paying roughly 370 AED more for double the space. That is the cheapest capacity upgrade in the entire build, and it is the one people cut first.

Why this is worth acting on now

Flash memory supply is expected to stay tight into the second half of 2027, which is the same window this game launches in. So the capacity crunch and the price crunch are scheduled to arrive together. Buying the drive while storage is still reasonably priced is not panic buying, it is just noticing that both lines on the graph point the same way. We went into the supply side of this in our piece on SSD prices.

Our take

Install sizes ballooning is not new and it is easy to roll your eyes at. The reason this one matters is the timing. A 200 GB headline title lands in the same stretch where storage gets more expensive, which means the upgrade you defer now costs more later and is more necessary later. Buy 2TB, keep a healthy amount of the drive free, and stop deleting games to make room for other games.
