Safest Budget Pick

A budget phone whose real selling point is an unusually long promise of software updates.

The short version

Short answer: the safest cheap phone in the UAE, because it will still be getting security updates long after its rivals have been abandoned.

Six years of updates changes the maths

Budget phones are usually supported for two years and then quietly left behind, which is what actually forces people to replace them. A six year commitment turns a 650 dirham phone into something you can keep until the battery gives out, and that makes it cheaper over time than several of its faster rivals.

The screen and the trade

A large, bright AMOLED panel at this price, which is where the money clearly went. The processor is modest and will show it when many applications are open or when you play demanding games. For messaging, video, navigation and photos it is perfectly quick.

Cameras and battery

The main camera is good in daylight and unremarkable once the light drops, as expected here. The battery comfortably lasts a day, helped by a screen and chip that are not trying to be flagship parts.

Who it suits

Buy it if the phone is a tool rather than a hobby. Calls, messages, maps, banking apps and a camera that is fine in daylight, on a handset that will still receive security updates long after its contemporaries have stopped. For a first phone, a work phone, or a parent who wants nothing to change for years, that update promise is worth more than any spec on the page.

Skip it if you play anything demanding or shoot a lot at night. This is a budget processor and a budget sensor, and no software promise changes either.

What to buy instead

The Infinix Note 50 at around 550 gives you noticeably more hardware for the same money: more memory, faster charging, a better screen. What it does not give you is the update commitment. That trade is the whole decision at this price. Step up to roughly 1,200 and the Galaxy A56 is a different class of phone in the same family.

Buying it in the UAE

Storage variants are the thing to watch on Amazon.ae. The same model number appears at several prices here and the cheapest listing is usually the smallest storage, which on a phone you intend to keep for years is a false economy. Check the memory and storage line in the listing rather than the headline price, and confirm it is the UAE model so the warranty is local.
