Acer Aspire Lite 16
Big Screen16" of screen for under 1,700 AED - the big-display budget king.
The short version
Short answer: the cheapest 16-inch screen worth owning in the UAE at around 1,670 AED, and the screen is the entire reason to buy it. The i3-1305U underneath is modest and the 8GB of RAM is tight. If you want display area more than speed, this is the one.
Is it worth it in the UAE?
Most laptops under 1,700 AED give you a 15.6-inch 1080p panel and call it a day. This one gives you a 16-inch 1920x1200 display, and that taller 16:10 aspect ratio is a bigger quality-of-life change than the numbers imply. Spreadsheets show more rows. Documents show more page. Anything with a toolbar at the top and a status bar at the bottom gives you back the space they were stealing.
The screen, since that is the point
16-inch WUXGA IPS, around 300 nits, roughly 45% NTSC. The brightness is a genuine step up from the Aspire 5 at 250 nits and makes a real difference in a bright room. The colour coverage is still budget-grade and flat, so photo or video work is off the table. But as a large, reasonably bright surface for text and browsing, it does the job that costs considerably more elsewhere.
Performance, realistically
The i3-1305U is a low-power chip built for battery life and light work, not throughput. Web, Office, streaming, video calls: fine. Heavy multitasking, large spreadsheets, photo editing, anything that sustains load for minutes at a time: it will slow down and stay slow. Intel UHD Graphics rules out modern gaming entirely; light and older titles only.
8GB of DDR5 is the practical constraint again. It is enough for the workload this machine is designed for and not much beyond it. Be realistic about tab counts.
Battery and portability
The ~45Wh battery is the smallest on this page, and it is paired with the largest screen. Those two facts pull against each other. The low-power CPU claws some of it back, but do not expect this to be an all-day machine away from a socket. Plan on carrying the charger.
At roughly 1.7kg it is genuinely light for a 16-inch laptop, and 17.9mm thin. The weight has been kept down, which is the main reason the big screen does not feel like a burden.
What you are giving up
No backlit keyboard. No Ethernet port, unlike its Aspire 5 sibling. A single USB-A rather than several. A 720p webcam. And the smallest battery here. The port trimming is how the 16-inch panel got into this price bracket, and whether that trade works depends entirely on whether you plug things in.
Should you buy it?
Buy it if screen size is what you actually want, the work is light, and the laptop mostly lives on a desk near a plug.
Do not buy it if you need real CPU performance or you work unplugged for long stretches. For similar money the IdeaPad Slim 3 is substantially faster on a smaller 14-inch screen, and that is the trade to think hardest about: size or speed, because at this price you are not getting both.
