Acer Aspire 5
Budget PickThe classic budget workhorse - nothing fancy, everything works.
The short version
Short answer: the cheapest way onto this page, and it shows. A dual-core i3 with integrated graphics and 8GB of RAM will handle a browser, Office and video, and will complain about anything past that. Buy it if the budget is genuinely fixed at around 1,900 AED. If you can stretch to the IdeaPad Slim 3, do.
Is it worth it in the UAE?
The Aspire 5 is the laptop people buy when the decision has already been made by the budget rather than by the spec sheet. At roughly 1,910 AED it is the entry point, and it is honest about what that means. Nothing here is trying to impress you.
Performance, realistically
The i3-1115G4 is a dual-core chip. That is the single most important line on the spec sheet and the one most listings bury. Two cores in 2026 is enough for one task at a time done patiently: a document, a browser with a sensible number of tabs, a video call, a spreadsheet that is not doing anything clever. It is not enough for twenty tabs plus a video call plus something downloading in the background, and it will not pretend otherwise.
The 8GB of RAM is the other ceiling, and in practice it is the one you will hit first. Windows 11 plus a modern browser eats into that quickly. Gaming is limited to Intel UHD Graphics, which means older or very light titles at low settings. Esports at reduced quality is achievable. Anything with a recent release date is not.
The screen
15.6-inch FHD IPS at 60Hz, around 250 nits, roughly 45% NTSC coverage. Translated: it is dim and the colours are flat. Indoors with the curtains drawn it is perfectly fine. Near a window in Dubai daylight it struggles, and if you do anything where colour accuracy matters, this is not the panel for it. IPS at least means the viewing angles do not collapse the moment you tilt the lid.
Build and daily use
At about 1.8kg it is light enough to carry daily without resenting it. The keyboard is not backlit, which is the sort of omission you do not notice in a shop and notice every single evening afterwards. The webcam is 720p, which is to say it exists. The port selection is genuinely good for the money: three USB-A, USB-C, HDMI, and an Ethernet jack that more expensive laptops have quietly deleted.
There is no dedicated cooling story here because there is not much heat to move. That is the upside of a low-power dual-core chip: it stays quiet, and it will not turn into a hotplate in a warm room.
What you are giving up
A backlit keyboard, screen brightness, colour accuracy, and headroom. The 512GB SSD is a reasonable size and the Wi-Fi 6 is current, so the basics are covered. What is missing is any margin: this machine does what it does and has nothing in reserve.
Should you buy it?
Buy it if the budget is fixed, the use case is documents, browsing and video, and you want something that works out of the box without drama.
Do not buy it if you can find another few hundred dirhams. The IdeaPad Slim 3 costs roughly 1,929 AED and gives you an 8-core i5 instead of a dual-core i3, which is a far bigger upgrade than the price gap suggests. That is not a close call. If you want a bigger screen for less, the Aspire Lite 16 is worth a look, though it shares the same weak-CPU problem.
