Elden Ring Tarnished Edition | Worth It for Newcomers and Veterans
Elden Ring needs no introduction - it's one of the most acclaimed games ever made. The new Tarnished Edition bundles the base game with the massive Shadow of the Erdtree expansion, and adds some fresh content for people who've already platinumed the thing. Here's who should buy it, and who should skip it. And yes, it's Elden Ring again - because it's still better than whatever else came out this month.
What's in the box
The Tarnished Edition includes the full Elden Ring experience plus Shadow of the Erdtree. On top of that, it brings two new starting classes (Heavy Knight and Knight of Ides), three Torrent customization skins, new weapons and armor, and additional customization options.
Important: Platform differences
The Tarnished Edition is a Nintendo Switch 2 exclusive priced at $79.99 (~290 AED). It is a complete package - base game + Erdtree + new content.
On PC, PS4/PS5, and Xbox, the new content is available separately as the Tarnished Pack DLC, releasing the same day (August 28) for approximately €4.99 (~20 AED). You do NOT need to rebuy the base game.
For newcomers: this is the entry point
If you have never played Elden Ring, this is the definitive way in on Switch 2. One purchase gets you the complete saga, and the new starting classes give you fresh ways to begin.
For veterans: the Tarnished Pack option
Here's where it gets interesting for existing owners on PC, PlayStation, or Xbox. The new content is available separately as the Tarnished Pack DLC for approximately €4.99 (~20 AED). You do NOT need to rebuy anything. Just grab the cheap pack for the cosmetics and classes, or skip it entirely.
The verdict
Newcomer Buy the Tarnished Edition without hesitation - it's the best game of the decade plus its expansion in one box. Veteran Buy the €4.99 Tarnished Pack if you want the new toys, otherwise you're already living the dream. Either way, this is the reminder that Elden Ring is still the standard every Soulslike - including Mortal Shell II - is measured against.
