Star Wars Zero Company — XCOM Meets Star Wars, and We're In
"XCOM meets Star Wars" is one of those pitch lines that sounds too good to be true — but Star Wars Zero Company comes from Respawn Entertainment (Titanfall, Jedi: Survivor) and Bit Reactor (founded by ex-Firaxis talent), so the pedigree is real. This is the Clone Wars-era tactics game fans have been asking for since forever.
What it is
You command a customizable squadron of mercenaries during the Clone Wars, facing a new threat called the Infinite Coil cult. The trailer shows exactly what you want from this genre: positioning, cover, ability management, and that delicious moment where a plan comes together. The customization angle means your squad is yours, not a fixed roster — which is where the replayability lives.
Why we're excited
Turn-based tactics is a genre where Star Wars has never had a proper home — the closest was Republic Commando, which was real-time and twenty years old. Zero Company fills that gap with the exact right developers: Respawn for polish, Bit Reactor for tactics pedigree. If the cover system and squad mechanics land, this could be the genre's mainstream breakthrough the way XCOM 2 was a decade ago.
Where to play
Turn-based tactics is one of the few genres where PC genuinely has the edge over console — mouse and keyboard make positioning and ability targeting faster and more precise. That said, it's also a perfect PlayStation game for couch sessions. Either way, this is a game that respects your thinking, not your reflexes, which makes it accessible to anyone.
Verdict
Watch list confirmed. If the launch reviews match the trailer's promise, this is the sleeper hit of the month — and the perfect palette cleanser between the action games dropping around it. Releases alongside MGS Vol. 2 and Plague Tale Legacy on a genuinely stacked Thursday.
